Future of Digital Forensics: A Survey of Available Training
نویسنده
چکیده
The field of forensics is multidisciplinary by nature, founded on the disciplines of criminology and information technology. However, most course work leading to a foundation in the field are offered within the Chemistry and Biology disciplines in addition to Computer Science. Regardless of the framework in which the courses are offered, the coursework itself must address social, legal, and ethical considerations for practitioners. In an effort to satisfy the different needs associated with forensics, there are different avenues one can pursue when seeking training in the field. Our research has identified 37 computer-related programs including some two-year associate degrees, fouryear baccalaureate programs, graduate certificate programs, and non graduate certificate programs. First, we briefly define digital forensics. Second, we then discuss the different schools and what is unique about their programs. Third, we will discuss the certification programs that are available for those not interested in obtaining a degree. A cyber forensics needs analysis survey: Revisiting the domain's needs a decade later
The number of successful cyber attacks continues to increase, threatening financial and personal security worldwide. Cyber/digital forensics is undergoing a paradigm shift in which evidence is frequently massive in size, demands live acquisition, and may be insufficient to convict a criminal residing in another legal jurisdiction. This paper presents the findings of the first broad needs analys...

The current study was a pilot study and attempted to add to the growing body of knowledge regarding inherent issues in computer forensics. The study consisted of an Internet-based survey that asked respondents to identify the top five issues in computer forensics. Sixty respondents answered the survey using a free form text field. The results indicated that education/training and certification ...
متن کاملAnalyzing registry, log files, and prefetch files in finding digital evidence in graphic design applications
The products of graphic design applications leave behind traces of digital information which can be used during a digital forensic investigation in cases where counterfeit documents have been created. This paper analyzes the digital forensics involved in the creation of counterfeit documents. This is achieved by first recognizing the digital forensic artifacts left behind from the use of graphi...
متن کاملA State-of-the-Art Review of Cloud Forensics
Cloud computing and digital forensics are emerging fields of technology. Unlike traditional digital forensics where the target environment can be almost completely isolated, acquired and can be under the investigators control; in cloud environments, the distribution of computation and storage poses unique and complex challenges to the investigators. Recently, the term “cloud forensics” has an i...

In this paper we posit that current investigative techniques—particularly as deployed by law enforcement, are becoming unsuitable for most types of crime investigation. The growth in cybercrime and the complexities of the types of the cybercrime coupled with the limitations in time and resources, both computational and human, in addressing cybercrime put an increasing strain on the ability of d...
